Flashback series- Pregnancy

The symptoms of pregnancy kicked in before I knew I was expecting. Soon the joy of pregnancy was overshadowed by the discomforts of the 1st trimester. I tried my best to deal with this new situation in my life by diverting my mind to more productive things like gathering information. It’s important to know what changes you will be experiencing and how to deal with tricky situations.

I started reading pregnancy blogs, books and apps. The most helpful were the apps; they provide you with details about the little life growing inside you week after week. Pregnant women go by weeks instead of months, there had been times when someone asked me which month is going on and I have replied in reference to weeks. The development and changes are constant, it can be quite challenging. Once you feel like you have conquered a small battle of discomfort, soon after that a new one arrives. So talking to other mothers, reading books, watching documentaries, anything and everything will help when needed.

Pregnancy books and apps update you weekly about your changing body and the baby. Especially its fun to know the exact size and formation of the baby, they would compare the baby’s size to fruits for example poppy seed, blueberry, orange and eventually even a watermelon. Imagine carrying a watermelon with you all the time, it’s exhausting. And I had two watermelons. Phew! Now when I think about it was a backbreaking job. Literally. But I never looked so huge, and this was one of the few times I have thanked my lucky starts for being tall.

When people think about pregnancy they often think delivery is the toughest part, nope I don’t think so. Really, for me it was the 1st trimester. It obviously differs for everyone many lucky ladies don’t throw up even once. And there are few who realize they are expecting after their 1st trimester is over. True story. When I was going through a tough time keeping food or water down my throat I spoke to many moms. The ones who went through the same experience as me sympathized with me; the ones who had even worst experience then me got my sympathies and the lucky ones who sailed through it could probably see me turn green with envy.

That’s how you give a blood test like a Desi rockstar and express a strong dislike for this procedure at the same time.

Flashback series -Thats how it all started

LOVE. It really does conquer all. Cliché, but true.

Us
Our Apartment in Atlanta

After two & half years of marriage, and living on the opposite side of the planet from India, we were done traveling like nomads; working and studying in US. We decided to head to the next stage – expanding our family. Exciting and scary at the same time: That’s the best way to sum it up in a sentence.

My friend from college Poonam was visiting America and decided to come over for a week in the summer of 2013, I was delighted and we both started organizing a camping trip with few of our common friends. It was an amazing week; catching up with friends, relaxing and living in tents. Not to mention, hogging all the homemade Thepla’s and Khakhda’s,Gujrati goodies Poonam got from India.
